3rd Generation Commercial Fishermen
Welcome to the Fishing Vessel Big Dipper. My name is Sven Savland, born and raised in Juneau, Alaska, and proud to come from a long line of commercial fishermen. My grandfather, Joar, immigrated from Norway in 1950 and began our family’s fishing tradition; a legacy my father, Stan, proudly carried on and passed down to me with the same hard-earned values and respect for the sea.
Today, fishing remains at the heart of our family. My wife, Rachel, worked alongside me as my deckhand for years before we had our son, Ollie. I’ve been fortunate to continue fishing with my family, working together to responsibly harvest wild-caught Alaskan crab.
